Ordering Contact Lenses and Saving Money

I recently visited my eye doctor. I scheduled an appointment, got right in and went through the normal series of vision tests. I did these with my contacts removed so that the doctor could test my vision and fit me for the proper contact lens prescription.

He even gave me the test for glaucoma, which shoots a puff of air into your eyes to test the pressure in your eyes. It’s technically called the non-contact tonometer. It’s good to get this test whenever you go in for an eye exam.

At the end of the exam, we had my new prescription for contacts. With my old prescription, I replaced my lenses every 3 months. The best way to remember to change them is to do it when the seasons change. This time, I had the choice of 3 month or monthly lenses. They were about the same price. Actually, the monthly ones were lower, so that decision was a no-brainer. I could get fresher contacts more often and they cost less.

I have astigmatism, so I need toric contact lenses, which correct astigmatism for me. I don’t require surgery for it, which is good.

They gave me a price for my contacts and it seemed pretty high. I asked them to check it again because the last time it was less – actually about $200 less. So they called a well-known mail order company that specializes in contacts and got me a much lower price. I think I saved $240, so it was really worth doing some price shopping – even if I just compared two places.

Once you know what your contact lens prescription is, it’s easy to shop around for a good price. You can make some phone calls or go to websites that sell contact lenses. A quick search on the Web will yield many results. There is a lot of competition, so you should be able to find a great price by just doing your research at a few places.

You will need an up to date prescription, so make sure you’ve seen your eye doctor. It’s best to go once a year.

Once I placed my order, they arrived very quickly. It was only a few days and they came via UPS. The package was small enough to leave it by my door without being noticed.

The package I got this time was different. I used to get contacts in a small, glass bottle. This time, they came in small, plastic containers, which resembled the case I use every night except it had a peel away top.

Overall, I was happy with my experience and would encourage anyone to shop around before placing an order. Don’t just order them at your eye doctor. You can save a lot of money and get the same thing.
