Our eyes are incredibly important and in the same respect are extremely fragile. Being so sensitive and exposed the eyes are more susceptible to damage than other parts of our bodies and require proper care and attention. That means protecting them from whatever life can throw at us. From remembering to take out your contacts to using an all natural eye gel instead of a chemically based on are all steps to take in order to ensure you have the healthiest eyes possible. Here are some tips on how to keep your eyes as healthy and youthful as possible.
1. Wear Sunglasses/Sun Screen
Ultraviolet radiation produced from the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer and signs of aging such like wrinkles and sun spots. The harsh light can damage the tissue of your eyes as well if you’re not careful. Make sure to always apply a sun screen with an SPF of 40 or higher around the eyes (not in the eyes or the eye lids, but the surrounding area) and the whole body. For extra protection wear a pair of UV protective sunglasses at all times when in direct sunlight to aid in the prevention of fine lines and crow’s feet.
2. Take Out Your Contacts
If anyone was ever going to take my advice on something this would be it. Please remember to take out your contacts every night and change them at required intervals as to avoid developing tumors and ulcers of the eye. If you don’t take out your contacts proteins build up over the eye leading to ulcers. Years ago I forgot to take my contacts out and didn’t pay much mind to them until one day I went to sleep with my contacts in and when I woke up I couldn’t open my left eye because the smallest amount of light hurt beyond belief. I almost went entirely blind in that eye. I had a hole develop in my cornea that resulted in me not being able to wear contacts anymore. Also if you’re applying an eye gel or facial cleanser take your contacts out first to avoid irritating them. So take out your contacts regularly, trust me it’s no fun if you don’t.
3. Eat Your Fruits and Veggies
Eating an antioxidant and vitamin rich diet is one of the best ways to promote good eye and overall health. Many of the best fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants are also rich in beta carotenes which are found in orange and red pigmented fruits and vegetables. Mangos, oranges, carrots, sweet potatoes, red peppers, and cherries are just a few of the foods you can eat to for your eye health. Beta carotenes promote stronger eye function-ability and good eye sight.
4. Avoid Eye Gels Made With Chemicals
Only the best eye gels are made from the highest quality all natural ingredients that are effective without causing irritation to the skin. The skin surrounding the eyes is very thin and fragile and is more susceptible to damage than other parts of the body. It’s important to avoid eye gels or creams that are made with harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances as many of these substances can cause skin irritation and severe allergic reactions. Temporary and permanent blindness as well as other eye complications have occurred in cases when a chemically based eye cream got into the eyes.
It’s important to take the best care of our eyes as well as our bodies. Follow these easy to remember and important tips to have the best eye health possible. Remember to always take out your contacts and change them regularly as well as protecting your eyes as best you can from the sun with high quality sun block and sunglasses. Avoid eye gels with harsh chemicals and fragrances as to lessen the chances of allergic reaction or irritation. Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and veggies as to promote a healthy mind, body and healthy eyes.
