Of all the five senses, sight is the most important and also the most developed. But we often take this gift for granted.
The human eye is very complex; many elements work in symphony to keep it functioning smoothly. Sadly we don’t realize this and we subject our eyes to constant stress and deprive it from much needed rest.
As a result, the machinery starts to break down. But, with proper care you can avoid most of the problems!
Some small changes in lifestyle can work wonders:
1.Use anti glare screens while working on the computer and look away from your screen and something green occasionally.
2.Use large fonts or high zoom levels while reading or typing.
3.Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from dust when outdoors.
4.Use a handkerchief to wipe your eye instead of your hand.
It is fact that vision deteriorates with age, but the rate of deterioration is in your control. See a doctor and get a complete eye check up twice a year. It is important to consult an eye specialist rather than a general medical practitioner.
If you wear glasses, check your power every six months with an eye technician. If you experience any irritation in the eye, wash it thoroughly with clean water. Do not try to treat it yourself if the irritation lasts longer than a day – go see your nearest doctor!
Every major hospital has an Ophthalmology Dept where you can get an eye check up any time. At some places, annual Eye Care Camps are held where people can get their vision for free. Government Hospitals extends the same facility to those who can’t afford expensive private hospitals. You can even get your eyes tested for free by an optician!
