How to UV Protect Eyeglasses

Just as it’s important to protect your skin from the sun, the eyes must also be shielded from the harmful UV rays. Blocking UV light keeps your eyes healthy. If eyes go unprotected, the results can be retinal damage or cataracts. To protect eyes from UV, or ultra-violet rays, wearing sunglasses with adequate protection is key. Keep your eyes healthy even when not wearing sunglasses by making sure that you UV protect eyeglasses.

Instructions
1 Make an appointment with an eye doctor. If you already visit a particular doctor, make an appointment with him. This appointment will be a consultation about your options. If you come to a decision during the appointment, take the steps recommended by the eye doctor. Discuss the cost as well. Schedule a follow-up appointment.

2 Consider the options. After speaking with the eye doctor, you are likely left with two major options. One is a lens treatment on the eyeglasses. This is an invisible dye that UV protects eyeglasses by blocking the rays. The other option is switching to photochromic lenses. They block out all of the sun’s UV rays as they darken when exposed to UV rays.

3 Go to the eye doctor appointment. Move forward with the UV protecting eyeglasses that you decided to get. This may involve another appointment as well, depending on the procedures of the office and the decision that you have made.
