How to Repair Scratches on Eyeglass Lenses

Eyeglasses are usually worn for most of the day and are susceptible to dirt, debris and the elements. When we do take our glasses off, they’re seldom put back in their cases. We usually leave them on the counter top or a night stand. We throw them into a purse, or the dog gets a hold of them. Even when precautions are taken and the best care is given, eyeglass lenses still get scratched.

Instructions
things you’ll need:
Mild metal cleaner
2 wash cloths
Soap
Eye glass cleaning kit
Lens polish
Polishing pad

1 Place the wash cloth over your finger and add a drop or two of mild metal cleaner.

2 Rub the metal cleaner over the scratches. Use a soft to medium pressure with a quick circular motion for three to five minutes. Repeat on the second lens, if necessary.

3 Run the glasses under warm water and dry with your second wash cloth. If the scratches are still visible, repeat the process. If the scratches are gone, wash the lenses with soap and water and pat dry.

4 Apply a lens cleaner to the lens according to the package directions. Most lens cleaners come in a small squirt bottle. You squirt the clean onto the lens then wipe off with a special cloth included in the lens cleaning kit.

5 Apply a lens polish to both lenses and buff with a polishing pad.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have metal cleaner on hand, you can substitute plain white toothpaste.
