How to Remove Broken Eyeglasses From Frames

Removing the broken lenses from your eyeglass frames takes a small amount of manual labor and a relative amount of patience and attention to detail. You should carefully disassemble the glasses so that replacement lenses will be easy to install. Keeping track of small parts like screws ensures that you won’t lose the small screws while transporting your glasses for repair.

things you’ll need:
•Small lint-free cloths
•Eyeglass repair kit
•Small container with lid
•Trash can

Instructions
1 Lay the small cloth down on a flat surface. The cloth will make the screws easier to find if you lose track of them after removing them from the frames.

2 Inspect your eyeglass frames to locate all the screws. The number of screws as well as their placement will vary depending on your model of frames.

3 Take out a screwdriver from your eyeglass repair kit. Test the different screwdrivers in the kit until you find the one that fits the screws in your frames.

4 Carefully remove all the screws from your frame. Place each screw in the container after you remove it from the frames. Close the lid when you have placed the last screw in the container.

5 Use your screwdriver to slowly and carefully pry the frame apart. Use a second lint-free cloth to carefully remove the lens. Work over a trash can to avoid losing any pieces of the broken lens. If your lenses are unbroken but heavily scratched and you want to save them, work over your original cloth or another small container that you can close. Make sure to discard all broken pieces of the lenses.

6 Return your screws to the holes. Return each screw carefully into its place on your frames. Alternate which side you work on, in order to avoid strain on the frames. Store your frames safely until further repair.
