How to Put Lenses in Eyeglass Frames

Lenses are used to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Eyeglass frames are needed to hold the lenses in place at the proper distance. You may wish to put your lenses into new frames when the old ones become broken, or simply to make a different fashion choice. You can perform this operation yourself if you have a very small screwdriver.

1 Obtain a very small screwdriver. This is commonly available from stores that sell eyeglasses. A screwdriver of the correct size may also be included in a repair kit for eyeglasses. The width of the screwdriver blade should typically be 1/16 inch or less. Ensure the screwdriver has the correct head for the screws on your eyeglasses.

2 Put the head of the screwdriver into one of the two screws that holds the frame together. Hold the frames in place with one hand as you rotate the screwdriver counterclockwise with the other hand.

3 Continue removing the screw until it’s no longer keeping the frames together. Gently release the frames and allow them to come apart. Remove the screw and lens from the frames and place them in a secure location so you don’t lose them.

4 Place the lens into the new frames and ensure that it’s properly seated. Hold the frames together and place the loose screw into the threaded hole. Tighten the screw with the screwdriver and release the frames.

5 Repeat this procedure with the other lens. Polish both sides of both lenses with the cloth that was included in your eyeglasses repair kit.
