It has been many years since glasses were invented. Maybe all of us would have the opinion that during the first periods of glasses, they were quite different from what they are now. Of course, as time goes on and with the development of science and technology, glasses have changed both in shapes and in functions.
In the early days when glasses were newly invented and used by people, the whole shape of glasses were almost two round lenses linked with metal strings. We could get the image of the early glasses either from some related pictures or from some pictures. Maybe most of us would have a picture of a gentleman or lady dressed up with traditional European costumes who was watching a play far away on the stage. He/she usually used a pair of glasses with a long stick and held it now and then whenever they wanted to see the play clearly.
As the fast development of modern technology, glasses have been changing all the time. Around the 1970s, what people would often see was an image of educated people wearing glasses with thick lenses. Because of the immature technology of making lenses as well as a kind of trend of being look like someone who was well-educated, a lot of people, especially the young, chose to wear a pair of glasses like that.
Then time has come to the new century and people’s minds have changed a lot. Also thanks to the rapid development of science and technology, the thickness of the lenses are becoming thinner and thinner. At the same time, we customers could choose how thick we want our lenses to be. Besides that, some new functions have been added into the original function of the glasses. For example, there is a kind of material for making lenses that could prevent UV from entering through the lenses.
In addition to what has been mentioned above, nowadays modern people are always choosing to wear glasses which are both functional and good looking. As a result, more shapes and kinds of frames are made and people have a variety of different choices.
During different times, glasses are presenting their unique characters. But after all, the original usage of glasses would not and never be forgotten— that is protect our eyes from worsen.
