Our eyes are especially delicate and fragile parts of our bodies, susceptible to irritation, infection and damage if we are not careful. They provide us with the sense of sight, and when our vision is impaired, this can make our lives very difficult indeed.
Contact lenses, whilst being a powerful and extremely effective method of helping to correct defective vision, if they are treated with the necessary care that they so require this can put our health at major risk.
There is a real (and indeed disconcerting) level of complacency among many contact lenses wearers, who think that their Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens (or any other leading brand name) is virtually indestructible and a fully automated, disinfecting entity. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth and so it is crucial that you take responsibility in the proper care, storage, cleaning and disinfecting of your contact lenses.
One of the main dangers that durable contact lenses pose is that they will inevitably begin to accumulate and store up protein and fatty deposits within the lens itself. If left untreated, this can result in a myriad of different problems, such as infections, blurry vision and damage to the eye, and therefore it is crucial that these deposits of protein are neutralized as soon as possible.
This is best achieved by using an enzymatic cleaning solution which will break down and neutralize the proteins. However, as mentioned before, even the likes of Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens are not self-cleaning lenses and so it is imperative that you also clean the lenses with a saline solution before inserting them into your eyes.
Saline shares many of the same characteristics as tears, and is an invaluable ally in the cleaning of contact lenses of more abrasive and dangerous chemicals which will cause severe damage to the eye.
