Caring For Your Contact Lenses is an Eye-deal Situation

In grade school as a child most of us have heard or have verbally teased another school mate who wore glasses by calling them,” Four Eyes”. This should not be so but it does happen. Luckily the poor innocent victim whose vision requires assistance can fix the problem by getting rid of those glasses and exchanging them for contact lenses. Today’s contact lenses are easy to get and easy to use. However, contacts need to be cared for daily to keep them sanitized and eye friendly.

One convenience of regular glasses is that they never actually make contact with the eye. So if you pumped gasoline into your car and place the glasses back on any residue of the toxic gas transferred to the hands has no opportunity to come in contact with the eye. If you are wearing contacts more caution must be exercised. Before putting in or removing contact lenses you should cleanse the hands with soap and water. On top of that you need to dry the hands thoroughly to remove any soap or chemical residue to avoid causing the contacts to be contaminated when being handled. A little soap film on contact lenses can cause the eye’s to experience a very uncomfortable burning sensation and even actually damage the organ.

Contact lenses normally are easy to use but sometimes they just don’t seem to want to cooperate. When this happens be patient and restrain from forcing them into place. With cleaned hands simply put an appropriate solution in the cupped palm of one hand and with the other carefully rub the contact lens in the solution. When done doing this give the lenses a second wetting with the solution and the contacts should slip over the eye easily

If you are not using your contact lenses be sure they are immersed in fresh solution. This is especially necessary to do when the lenses are soaking overnight while sleeping. While you sleep the solution is properly removing the protein out of the porous lenses. Not doing this with the contacts when not in use can cause physical damage to the eye the next time they’re used. If after following the right procedures for caring for your contact lenses the eyes still sting when using them you should find a different solution product. Doing this in most cases stops the problem of burning and irritation to the eyes. On windy or extremely dry weather days it may be necessary to rewet the eyes. Contact lenses can dry out and feel uncomfortable. Just remember to keep a small bottle of saline solution with you and apply a few drops to the dry lenses and the eye and business can go on as usual.

If you’re afraid to try contact lenses its understandable. The idea of putting some foreign object in your eye seems contrary to nature. You’ll only feel this way before your optician explains and shows you how to use them. If they do their job right the fear of contact lenses will disappear. The only thing you have to worry about when using contacts is deciding how many mirrors to purchase. Because once you stop being a “four eyes” your ego will swell and force you to enjoy viewing the glamorous new you often.
