It has happened to anyone who wears glasses something gets out of whack and you end up adjusting your frame. Sometimes it works out OK and sometimes not. It can be a real hassle and provide hours of anxiety and aggravation. A lot of times the glasses are never the same again. But, if you are careful and your optician is not readily available you can be successful in the short term with making the adjustment. It is always advisable to have a pro do it if available though. After all, after working on your car don’t you usually end up going to the mechanic anyway?
The first thing to remember when adjusting your spectacles frame is to take your time. Patience is definitely a well needed virtue when you are taking on this project. Take the time to really look at your frames and see how everything relates to each other. Knowing the landscape of the frame before you begin to do anything is important. A hastily adjusted frame is bound to be a poorly adjusted frame. Now before doing anything, get yourself a frame adjustment kit. They are cheap and will save you a lot of headache and heartache. Even though you may be tempted, do not repeat do not use a steak knife or other equally deficient utensil for the tightening or loosening of those tiny frame screws.
Once you have surveyed the glasses and are ready to start adjusting your frame, take a deep breath and begin. Consider using heat if you have a plastic frame, heat can make the plastic a lot more liable and avoid the cracking or breaking of the frame. Just don’t heat it too much. You want it pliable not melted. A melted frame is a bad frame and at that point just toss it and get new glasses. Once you begin the adjustment keep in mind exactly what you are trying to achieve. How you want the glasses to fall on your face is important to how you will bend them.
If you are not successful in adjusting your spectacles frame, which is probably a good possibility then don’t worry. You can get good, stylish and cheap frames and have fun picking out a new look. Yes, it is possible to adjust your frames yourself but it really is not advisable. Good luck with it and happy frame adjusting. Just be careful!
