Changing the colour of your eyes with tinted contact lenses is easy, quick and extremely effective. Want your eyes to match the colour of your new dress? No problem! Just pick the right lenses, pop them and transform yourself from a brown eyed brunette to a blue eyed babe!
With so many people choosing to do exactly that, we’ve decided to write an article to explain exactly how tinted contact lenses work.
The idea behind tinted lenses is to cover the iris (the coloured part of your eye) with a new colour thereby changing your look. Since the new colour sits on your contact lens you can return to your natural colour by simply removing your contacts.
There are two types of coloured contact lenses: opaque coloured lenses (which change your natural colour completely) and enhancement lenses which simply enhance the natural colour of your eye. Let’s look at these types of lenses in a bit more detail.
Opaque coloured lenses have a clear part which covers your pupil so that you can see out of them and an coloured opaque part which covers your iris. Tints vary by manufacturer which means that a green tinted lens from one will give you a different look to a green lens from another.
Enhancement contact lenses alter your existing eye colour by boosting it slightly. They have very light tints designed to work well with particular shades.
As well as the more established varieties of tinted lenses, a new type has recently been added to the marked. This is known as an equinox tinted lens. It makes the wearer look as though he or she has a black ring around their iris. Although it looks fairly natural it produces an extraordinarily hypotonic effect.
Whatever type of tinted lens you choose, you can have a lot of fun changing your look. Match your eye colour to your outfit, mood or an occasion and enjoy the transformation!
A note of caution however, tinted contact lenses need to be taken as much care of as ordinary lenses. Always wash your hands before inserting or removing them, get an optometrist to prescribe them and follow their care guidelines carefully.
