How to Insert, Take Out, and Take Care of Re-Usable Contact Lenses

As cosmetic contact lenses become increasingly cheaper and more popular, many people are turning to the internet to purchase contact lenses online. The downside to this is many people simply don’t know how to correctly use their lenses and take care of them once they receive them. This guide provides instructions on how to insert, take out, and care for your lenses.

Single use or re-use?

When you buy contact lenses you will need to know whether or not the lens can be re-used. If you have bought re-usable lenses you will need to buy a contact lens case and cleaning solution before you open your lenses. Both of these products can be bought from your local chemist or optometrist.

Inserting a contact lens

This is perhaps the most difficult part. Follow the steps below and hopefully it will make the process a lot easier.

Steps:
1. Wash your hands with soap and dry them thoroughly.
2. Remove one of the lenses from the vial or blister pack and place it in the palm of your hand.
3. Make sure the lens isn’t damaged. Check for any dirt, dust and any rips in the lens.
4. Place the lens on to the end of your index finger. Make sure the lenses aren’t completely dry when you do this.
5. Using your free hand, hold you eye open.
6. While looking up, softly place the contact lens on to your eye.
7. Look down and blink.
8. Look left, right and blink again.
9. Repeat steps 2-8 for your other eye.

Your contact lens should now be placed over your eye. You may need to use some eye drops if your eyes feel dry.

Removing and cleaning your lens

If you have bought single use lenses you can skip the cleaning section of this guide. Removing a contact lens is thankfully a lot easier to do then inserting one. Follow the steps below and the process should be easy.

Preparation steps:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and dry them.
2. If you are using re-usable lenses, you will need to take the lid off your contact lens case.
3. Pour enough solution in to the case so that once the lenses are placed in there they will be fully submerged.

Removal steps:
1. With one hand, hold your eye lids open.
2. Look up.
3. With your free hand, carefully slide the contact down.
4. Lightly pinch the contact out.

Cleaning steps:
1. Place your lens in to your cases which you should have prepared earlier.
2. Move the lenses around in the solution for a few seconds.
3. Place the lid back on.
