Many optical shops charge a large fee for installing or removing the frames of glasses. If you prefer to switch the frames of two pairs of glasses yourself, you can perform the procedure with only an eyeglass repair kit. To ensure a proper switch, use frames as similar as possible and lenses with the same prescription. Because the curve of lenses changes with their placement in the frame, frames must be similar for appropriate vision.
Instructions
things you’ll need:
Eyeglass repair kit
1 Determine whether the lenses of the glasses will fit into the alternate frames. Lenses must be the same shape and size in order to switch them.
2 Examine both frames to determine whether there are any cracks or dents. If there is any visible damage, new lenses may not fit and attempting to remove lenses may permanently break the frames. Do not attempt to switch the lenses if the frames or lenses are cracked.
3 Remove the screws in the corners of your first frame (A) using a flathead screwdriver, found in an eyeglass repair kit.
4 Grasp the lens of frame A and gently push it outward until it pops out of the glasses. Repeat this process with the other lens and set the first set of lenses to the right.
5 Remove the screws and lenses for the other frame (B) using the same techniques as frame A. Set the lenses to the left.
6 Pick up the lenses at the right. Set one lens over frame B so that the curve of the lenses faces the front of the glasses. Pop the lens into frame B and repeat the action for the other lens. Tighten the screws of frame B.
7 Repeat the installation process for frame A.
8 Test the glasses by wearing for a few minutes before leaving home in them. Ensure that you see correctly.
