Day after day of wearing your spectacles will ultimately give it wear and tear, and could lead them to sit crookedly on your nose. Not only is it unattractive, but if left unattended, it will deteriorate your vision. Although it is best to take your pair straight to a professional to prevent further damage, straightening a pair of eyeglasses at home is simple as long as you have the proper tools and the patience to do it correctly.
Instructions
things you’ll need:
Optical repair kit with tiny screwdriver and needle nose pliers
Small level
Microfiber cloth
1 Check the screws that hinge the frame and temple pieces together. Your eyeglasses may simply just be loose, thus causing the unevenness. Using a tiny screwdriver, tighten all screws you spot on your glasses. Use a microfiber cloth to cover the lenses to protect them if necessary.
2 Check the nose bridge to ensure that it is not bent. Lay your glasses upside-down on a flat, even surface and determine with a level if the nose bridge is properly aligned. If it is crooked, gently shift them back into place using needle nose pliers. Use the microfiber cloth to cover your lenses to keep from scratching them accidentally. If you have a plastic pair of eyeglasses, you can first boil water and steam your glasses to make the plastic slightly more malleable before using the pliers to adjust the nose bridge.
3 Check your nose pads and pad arms. If they are crooked, bend them back into place with needle nose pliers. Since they are somewhat fragile, be careful when adjusting them and use steady, gentle pressure to adjust them while covering your lenses with a microfiber cloth.
4 Determine whether the temple pieces are straight. Lay your eyeglasses upside down on a flat, even surface to conclude whether the temples are crooked. Use the needle nose pliers to adjust them carefully back to a straightened position.
Tips & Warnings
Use caution and be patient when adjusting your glasses so as not to cause further damage.
