Overcome constantly misplacing your eyeglasses or knocking them onto the floor by building a homemade eyeglass holder. Rest your glasses on this simple device and you’ll always know where they are. It gives you a place to store them when not in use and eliminates the temptation to lay them on the table where they could get scratched or worse. Those who only wear glasses occasionally will appreciate having a designated spot where they can always find their reading glasses.

Modeling clay
Wax paper
Cookie sheet or pizza tray
1 Shape a ball of modeling clay into a small thick circle to form the base of your eyeglass holder. Do not use modeling clay that never hardens. You want regular modeling clay that you can harden through either air drying or baking in the oven.
2 Lay the base flat on a table and press it down slightly so it becomes smooth and level on the bottom. Take a second ball of modeling clay and form a large pyramid shape. It doesn’t need to be an exact pyramid, but the general shape is what you’re aiming for.
3 Pull one side of the pyramid shape outward to create a thick protrusion. Try to shape it like a large, bulging nose. This is now the front of your glasses holder and your glasses will rest on this piece. Pull the back side of the pyramid out slightly and create a slit wide enough for the legs of your glasses to slide into when your glasses are folded. Make sure the clay you pull away is still fairly thick or it may break off.
4 Place your glasses on the holder to see if they fit. After folding them, you should slide your glasses over the holder and the nose pieces should rest on the bulging front while the legs slide into the slit in the back. Adjust the clay holder as necessary.
5 Press the holder onto the base you created and press modeling clay around the bottom of the holder to connect it with the base. Smooth out the entire piece and make sure it can sit upright on the table by itself.
6 Add other colors of modeling clay for decoration. Tiny strips of clay can create dots, zigzags and spirals. You can also paint the clay with acrylic paint after you’ve allowed it to dry and harden.
7 Leave the clay in a dry area for a few days until its nice and hard. If you’re in a hurry, place it on a piece of wax paper and put it on a cookie sheet or pizza tray. Bake it in the oven at 250 degrees, or the temperature recommended on the package if it says otherwise. Check every five minutes to see if the clay has hardened yet.
Tips & Warnings
If you don’t have modeling clay, create your stand from play dough and allow it to air dry for 24 to 48 hours.
