Our eyes are the window to the world. What we perceive stimulates thousands of nerves and co-ordinates the functioning of many of our reactions and brain activity. But how much attention is given to its care and maintenance? Almost none.
Eye care gains importance when we have to wear spectacles or contact lens. We care because it affects our overall appearance. Similarly eye make-up like eye shadow, eye liners, mascara, false eyelashes all play an important role in every woman’s grooming ritual.
Our vision gets affected due to various factors like poor nutrition, neglect, genes and old age. Lately, eye problems have doubled due to neglect. Long hours of watching television, playing video games, sitting too close to the computer screen, constant reading and poor lighting while involving in these activities has lead to further deterioration of eyesight.
Pollution also acts as a silent tormentor to clear vision. Dirt particles, dust give rise to itchy eyes, causing redness and irritation. Many brush this off and constantly rub their eyes. In such situations, the eyes should be washed with clean water. There are eye drops available which provide relief. Eyestrain leads to headaches and when these headaches are not treated at the beginning can lead to severe and unbearable discomfort.
Just like our skin, the eyes too need protection from the sun. Choosing the right sunglasses is essential. This selection should not be done based on trendy frames or color based on latest fashion trends. The focus should be on how best it can protect the eyes from the ultraviolet rays.
Eyes should be regularly tested. Following a simple eye care regime may seem insignificant but in the long run, timely care at an early stage can prevent a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering.
