Believe it or not, your eyes can be your best weapon in a game of paintball. If you can’t see your target how are you possibly going to hit it? Keeping your eyes in top shape equates to taking great care of your goggle system.
How to Clean and Prevent Your Goggles from Fogging – Dirty and/or foggy goggles can cost you the game. Take these precautionary measures to be sure this doesn’t happen to you in your next paintball match:
1. Purchase Plexxus lens cleaner and clean your mask with this solution prior to every use. This can be found stores that carry paintball gear. This solution alone is the most effective way to clean your lens.
2. Take a dry, soft cloth and wipe off solution. Keep rubbing the lens with the cloth until it is completely dry. This may require a few rounds of drying.
3. Now take an anti-fog solution and apply it to the inside of the lens. This type of solution can be found at any store that carries paintball supplies. When applying this solution you should “paint” it on the lens. Don’t over paint the lens. This will result is more complications.
With that being said, it is fairly easy to care for your goggles off the field. This brings up another topic: What about caring for your goggles on the field? There are a few tips that may end up saving your goggles from permanent scratches and/or damage.
Splattered paint can be the biggest obstacle when it comes to keeping your goggles clean while playing. The best way to take the paint off your goggles mid-game is with soft toilet or tissue paper. It is suggested that you stick a slightly damp bunch of toilet paper in your pocket before the game. This will give you immediate access if you need to clean your goggles in a hurry. Dampening the tissue or toilet paper before wiping your goggles will prevent scratches. This is the same reason that using paper towels is not recommended.
Even if paint is not altering the view through your goggles you should make it a habit to clean it during the game at least a few times. Besides paint, there are other things that can build up on your mask that you may not immediately notice. If you are playing in a dirt field, which most of them are, then a thin layer of dirt on your mask can make all the difference in your accuracy.
Don’t let a dirty lens make a difference in your game. More importantly, use the write solutions and methods to clean your goggles and mask to ensure that you don’t permanently damage your mask. Paintball mask can last a long time when properly taken care of. Don’t make the sport any more expensive than it already is.
