The designer brand Burberry was founded by a 21 year old Thomas Burberry in 1856 who was a former draper’s apprentice. Thomas began his career in fashion by opening up his own shop located in Basingstoke, Hampshire which specialised in selling waterproof overcoats. The shop quickly became popular and renowned for its high quality garments. Thomas Burberry was a designer who always appreciated fine materials and understood how quality was of equal importance as the aesthetic style. He managed to combine the two and his status as a designer was quickly raised due to these factors and his passion for design.
One of the most popular items created by Burberry which has made the brand as famous as it is today, was designed in 1914 and is still a wardrobe staple for many people – the Burberry trench coat. What always is noted about the trench coat and defines it from other brands is the famous Burberry check which with its black, tan, and red pattern is known as the “Haymarket check” or the “Burberry classic check” and is the pattern found on the lining of the trench coats. The check pattern is found on other Burberry products including perfume bottles, handbags and is also incorporated into the designs of Burberry sunglasses.
Burberry sunglasses are one of the most recent accessory additions to the designer label and are very much in line with the other collections – chic and sophisticated and striking in appearance. Burberry sunglasses can definitely be described as classic in style with trendy twists in many of the designs. The colours tend to be more neutral and versatile with mostly the traditional Burberry tones including browns, blacks, ambers and greys with some new lighter tones for 2010 including white. One trend which Burberry has captured is the oversized sunglasses style and thus many of the designs are oversized with either round or squarer shaped frames that perfectly capture the glamorous and dramatic oversized look.
The iconic Burberry check pattern is also featured on many of the styles, some more subtle such as on a section of the arms. Burberry sunglasses feature intrinsic detailing and fine craftsmanship – elements that the brand is definitely favoured and regarded for. The quilted check Burberry sunglasses for example make them stand out with a sense of understated and feminine glamour.
In recent seasons, Burberry has updated many of its collections from a trend perspective and its advertising campaigns have become more hip and youthful to match this change in tone. Models such as Agyness Deyn, Lily Donaldson and Lara Stone have all being featured in the Burberry advertising campaigns and the brand is constantly being focused upon in publications such as Vogue, Harpers Bizarre and Tatler. Despite managing to sustain its primary image as a fine, classic English brand, it is very much on trend yet elegant and super stylish. The collection of Burberry sunglasses perfectly represents this combination of classic and contemporary design.
