You may never be as famous as Beyonce Knowles or Jennifer Lopez or as hunky as Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. You may never have the same fan adulation that Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake receives. However, you can still be your own star and imitate your favorite artists. You simply have to don the popular celebrity sunglasses.
What’s the Use of Celebrity Sunglasses?
For others, sunglasses are made to protect their eyes against the harmful rays of the sun. Some have tints that prevent UV rays from obstructing your vision, while others have anti-glare properties, which can help control brightness of light.
There are also others who would wear sunglasses as a form of fashion statement. Jeans, white shirt, and cool sneakers would definitely look hipper if you have sunglasses on.
For celebrities, though, they have another purpose for them: sunglasses can keep them “safe” from the paparazzi. Sunglasses can be used as disguises or defense mechanism.
The Most Popular Sunglasses
Sunglasses used by celebrities can in all forms and sizes. Some of them, though, stand out.
During the 1930s, Ray-Ban came up with Aviator shades. They were never missed because their lenses were huge, and their frames were usually made of metal that tend to hug the ears. They were also famous because they were worn with a lot of celebrities such as James Dean and Elvis Presley.
Though there are already new technologies that are being used in Aviators, such as polarized and mirrored lenses, they still remain timeless. Well-loved celebrity designers such as Versace and Stella McCartney have produced their own version of Aviators. The former attached Swarovski crystals into the frame, while the designs of the latter were worn by Madonna and Lenny Kravitz, to name a few.
Women, on the other hand, don’t want to be outdone by the guys. During the 1950s, huge sunglasses, with thicker frames, were worn by then First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, especially when she went out on trips. In fact, you could find a lot of images of her with her ultra-famous huge sunglasses. It didn’t last long before most women during her generation followed her style.
Fast forward, the same style is imitated by Nicole Richie, known to be one of the society’s It girl and the daughter of Lionel Richie, a very famous singer. A lover of anything vintage, you would normally find her wearing extra-large glasses with variety of colors for the frames.
Besides the optical glasses, John Lennon was also known to wear dark glasses with wire rims. Legend has it that they were used to conceal his red eyes, a usual physiological effect of drug use.
A long time ago, Ray-Ban was the most world-recognized brand for sunglasses. Today, though, almost all fashion lines have ventured into the creation of their own optics, and what better way to promote their products than have celebrities wear them.
Thus, you can find Paris Hilton wearing an Oakley; Jessica Simpson, Dolce and Gabbana or Gucci; the Olsen Twins, Chanel or Fendi; and Britney Spears, Roberto Cavalli.
